Seeing white crust on faucets or spots on dishes in Manteca? That’s hard water. A softener nearly eliminates the spotting, and RO takes care of drinking water.
Manteca homeowners tell us the same things: white crust on faucets, spotty glasses, stiff towels, and a chlorine smell in the shower. The reason is the city’s two-source supply. Most of the year Manteca blends groundwater from its own wells with treated surface water from Woodward Reservoir, bought from the South San Joaquin Irrigation District (SSJID). The well water is much harder than the surface water, so how your water feels can change with the blend and with where you live in town.
We’re a family business from nearby Modesto, and Manteca is one of the cities we drive to most. Brett started Liquid Solutions Inc in 1996, and his son Kyle runs it today. We test your tap first, then recommend a water softener or a salt-free conditioner for scale, a whole house water filter for chlorine taste and odor, and reverse osmosis for drinking water. Only the pieces your test calls for.
Just moved from the Bay Area and your skin feels drier? Many people notice it. San Francisco’s water averaged 62 ppm (parts per million) of hardness in 2025, and EBMUD describes its water as soft to moderately hard [SFPUC 2025 Annual Water Quality Report] [EBMUD water quality FAQs]. Valley tap water is often harder, and the chlorine or chloramine (chlorine combined with ammonia) used to disinfect city water can dry out skin and hair. A water softener takes care of the hardness, and whole-house carbon filtration reduces chlorine at every tap.
What Manteca’s 2025 water report says
- Supply: groundwater from 16 city wells plus treated surface water from Woodward Reservoir, purchased from SSJID. [City of Manteca 2025 Consumer Confidence Report]
- Hardness: city wells average 158 ppm as calcium carbonate (range 71–318 ppm). The SSJID surface water is far softer, around 31 ppm. [City of Manteca 2025 Consumer Confidence Report]
- Disinfectant: chlorine residual averaged 0.97 ppm (range 0.21–1.81 ppm). Manteca’s report lists chlorine, not chloramine. [City of Manteca 2025 Consumer Confidence Report]
- 1,2,3-TCP (trichloropropane, a contaminant linked to past farm fumigant use): the city installed treatment on every affected well, and all plants were running by June 2025. Before that, one well’s running annual average reached 31 ng/L (ppt) in the second quarter of 2025, against California’s 5 ppt limit; the report says all wells sampled since June 2025 show no detection of TCP. [City of Manteca 2025 Consumer Confidence Report] [State Water Board: 1,2,3-TCP]
- PFAS: one well sampled Sept. 16, 2025 showed PFHxS at 7.5 ppt, above the state’s 3 ppt notification level (an advisory level, not an enforceable standard). The city says it is designing treatment at that well. [City of Manteca 2025 Consumer Confidence Report]
These are system-wide averages and ranges from the public reports linked above. Your home’s water can differ by street and source, so we test at your tap before recommending anything.
A recent Manteca job
In early October 2026 we finished a full home water setup in Manteca: a water softener for the hard well water, whole house carbon filtration for chlorine, and an under-sink reverse osmosis system at the kitchen sink. The family now has soft water at every tap and better-tasting water for drinking and cooking. The photos on this page are from that home.
Local water challenges in Manteca
- Scale on faucets, shower glass and water heaters from the harder well water
- Chlorine taste and smell in showers, coffee and ice
- Families who want an extra drinking-water layer after the city’s TCP work
- Stiff laundry and soap that won’t rinse clean
How we help Manteca homes
Most Manteca homes we see need two or three things, not five. Hardness gets a softener or a salt-free conditioner (side by side; pick salt-free anytime you’d rather skip salt). Chlorine gets a whole house water filter: Big Blue cartridge filters for a simple setup, or a backwashing carbon tank that cleans itself. Drinking water gets under-sink RO, which reduces a wide range of dissolved contaminants. Systems are built with NSF-certified components.

Manteca water FAQs
Is Manteca water hard?
Yes, on the well side. Manteca’s 2025 report puts city-well hardness at 158 ppm on average (71–318 ppm), while the SSJID surface water is around 31 ppm. Your tap is a blend, so a free test tells you what your home actually gets.
Does Manteca still have TCP in its water?
The city installed TCP treatment on all affected wells, and its 2025 report says those plants were all operating by June 2025. If you want an extra layer for drinking and cooking water anyway, under-sink reverse osmosis is the usual choice. We test first and won’t push it if you don’t need it.
Do I need a whole house water filter if I already have a softener?
A softener handles hardness, not chlorine. A whole house carbon filter cuts chlorine taste and smell at every tap, and filtering chlorine first can also help softener resin last longer. Many Manteca homes do both.
Does Manteca use chlorine or chloramine?
Manteca’s 2025 report lists chlorine as its disinfectant, averaging 0.97 ppm. Some neighboring systems, like the City of Stockton, use chloramine. Carbon filtration handles chlorine taste well; chloramine needs a catalytic carbon sized for it.
How much does a water softener cost in Manteca?
It depends on your home’s size and what your water test shows. We start with a free in-home water test in Manteca, then give you a written, no-pressure estimate for the softener, filter or RO system your water calls for. Financing is available through Enhancify, including 0% for 21 months on approved credit (OAC). See terms (opens in a new tab) As an Enhancify.com Service Provider earn from qualifying purchases.
Do you install water softeners in The Collective and Del Webb’s Woodbridge?
Yes. We serve homes all over Manteca, including The Collective, Del Webb’s Woodbridge, Atherton Homes at Griffin Park, Villa Ticino and Arbor Bend. The water is the same city blend, so we test at your tap and size the system to your household.
Is there a water softener company near me in Manteca?
We’re based in nearby Modesto and Manteca is one of the cities we drive to most. The same family-owned team tests, installs and services your system. See water softeners in Manteca.
